Annotated 13-2
Gravedust is used to a lot of things by now, everything from the group’s usual dynamics to Frigg’s manner of eating, though it’s still a little like sharing a table with a grunting warthog. Hard to argue with his little near-haiku in panel 4.
I was surprised to reread Phil’s notes for this scene and discover the instruction to keep the lighting low, maintaining a slight sense of foreboding. Frigg and Gravedust are a solid comedy duo and their back-and-forth helps coax us into this story, but they’ll be facing some darkness before this chapter’s done.
Gravedust’s button image sneaks into the bottom tier here. Three to go.
“Raidin’ Bran”. Just one of the best of those classic Guilded Age puns.
I really love “No meat for the meatshield.”
Also, Gravy’s face in the last panel is … so warm.
So… does coffee exist in Arkerra?
The thought icons in panel one seems to suggest so. Also cigarettes and scoops of raisins exist. ;-)
I had to google “scoops of raisins” to understand the reference to Kellogg’s Raisin Bran and its mascot. Thanks for clearing that up!
I always enjoy the Frigg/Gravedust interactions.
I guess Frigg is not enticed by the lavish fruit bowl? :P
Question one: Can you get to India through North America? No, but at least there’s beaver.
Question two: Steal the spice trade! That’s not a question, but the Dutch did it anyway.
Honestly her questions sound like my cat’s idea of dinner. “Where is the food? Give it to me.”
Trust carries sleep
Faith carries us out again
Frigg cares about MEAT
