Didn’t notice until you mentioned it, but yeah. That’s really odd. Especially because the rooks on opposite corners have the same armaments, so it looks like the symmetry is along the line A1 to G8, but the kings and queens are still opposite each other in the same files. Trippy.

As I recall, in Durlag’s Tower, the strategy I used here was to strafe the entire chessboard with arrows of detonation, then I had Minsc rush in to claim the +3 great sword.
It’s shame those Sky Elves can’t set up a chessboard properly. (The white square goes in the right hand corner, Queen on her own color.) If they can’t set up the board properly then they sure as hell can’t play the game worth a damn.
