Why Frigg is surprised by Syr’nj’s prowess is beyond me – the whole party knows she did a hitch in the Field Medics and how badass you’d have to be to survive that…
Seems one of Byron’s axes is holding the pawns in aBayence, while the other is chopping through their Brayens.
If they want to rebuild this trap, the sky elves will need to visit a pawn shop.
Damn. I can really feel the action here. I’m no art critic, so I don’t know if it’s dynamic camera angles or what’s going on, but this is just fantastic and very engaging on a visual level. Kudos.
I’m so confused. Did Frigg change sizes at any point in time? Because I thought she’d gotten huge when she stepped on the board? But now everyone is the same size?
I thought the point of an RSS feed is to let you know WHEN a site has been updated, such that you can then visit the site and see the update with proper formatting.
I use an iPod touch and really like being able to load up MobileRSS in the morning and read the cached comic on the train. I end up visiting the site anyway when I get home to check out comments and alt text but it’s way funner to be able to read it on the go. It’s a small issue though and I don’t mind too much.
It’s a webcomic. There isn’t a lot of formatting that I care about, other than the strip.
I hadn’t thought of the traffic-based revenue (I block ads, so they don’t really cross my mind), but of the… 14 feeds I follow at the moment, other than Oglaf (which I think makes you click due to the NSFW content), this is the only comic that makes me open another tab from Google Reader. Occasionally I’ll try to squint it out, but that’s just a lesson in aggravation.
Man, but then I’ve got to move my whole hand on the mouse and do the clicky thing. It’s just too much work! I DEMAND MORE CONVENIENCE! Phil and co. should be beaming this comic directly into my mind three days a week!
Well, it is less convenient. It’s the same effort on tptb’s part to post either image to the feed (which they’ve already chosen to provide). I don’t mean to sound like a tool or all gimme-gimme, but they’re already providing a service and it is kind of an easy-fix annoyance.
I would make a pun about ponies or mules or something, but that seems too easy for this. I guess someone else will have to jockey to be the first person to make a horse pun.
Firstly the dwarf gets loaded, science gets done and a group of axes makes a Pun in 2/3 time. Then we get to Byron doing what hes Best at. After that, we get another Friggin shot for science ( or is that with Science I’d hate to get Needled if i guessed wrong) Gravedust’s knight starts out on the mark and he gets the point. After a lift from an elf ( that’s all for the Best), they are just starting to horse around. . and that’s the last panel!
That first pun was absolutely on target, so, as the Bishop should’ve said to Syr’nj, ‘knife one – you’re looking sharp.’ It’s good to see that you weren’t short on dwarf jokes – your comment on panel four really made my knight. That said, I think your concern over capitalisation was misplaced – you should just get to the point. Lancely but not leastly, I congratulate you on stepping up and taking a tilt at the last panel. Very nicely reined in at the end. If you’d ridden it too long it could’ve come across as flogging a dead horse, or maybe a bit mechanical.
Thanks, Naare. I’m sure we’ve all been itching for some action after the relatively static mirror room.
I think it has to do with the magical rules for a magical game. An arrow to even a hollow, mechanical head registers as, if not a lethal hit, an incapacitating one. That knight is now out of play for as least one turn.
Dang, just read the whole series through. Does this mean I will actually have to WAIT to see the next installment? ARGHHH!! I need to brush up on my puns if I want to post again.
Those two gnomes must be having a nightmare right now.
So far the weakest opponents seem to have been mechanical (including Gigundus) in nature. This does not bode well for robot kind.
Sundar will be so disappointed!
They really aren’t geared for success.
I, for one, welcome our robotic underlings!
the threat of these chessmen seems hollow.
They don’t seem to be putting up a solid fight.
It’s the shell shock you have to worry about.
Most of them are just pawns, anyway.
It sure rooks that way.
This could still be a gambit.
Why Frigg is surprised by Syr’nj’s prowess is beyond me – the whole party knows she did a hitch in the Field Medics and how badass you’d have to be to survive that…
It’s odd to me, too. She’s seen Syr’nj fight before, on the pirate ship.
That’s just Frigg being her usual Jerkass-y self.
I’m really loving these action panels. Also, I’m surprised Best can vault so high with that dwarf weighing him down.
It’s the old elven extending rubber arm trick. For more details, see the Lord of the Rings, Legolas and Gimli versus the Warg Riders.
He seems to be using the lance as a kind of step. Impressive, nevertheless.
Such teamwork!
C’mon people. The new page’s been out for almost an hour and only 4 comments? Fuuuuuuuuuuu!
…the alt-text stole our puns, the source of our power.
It looks like Byron can cut through prices for a mace-ive retail.
Sorry for the bad bad pun, but that’s all I can do right now.
Seems one of Byron’s axes is holding the pawns in aBayence, while the other is chopping through their Brayens.

Looks like Syr’nj is better than Frigg at bopping the bishop.
She’s prolly gonna choke ‘im.
I’ve been trying to think up one about dwarves, but I keep coming up short.
<3
Yeah, this one’s over my head.
It’s a real pity – I was hoping someone could come up with a big one.
Damn. I can really feel the action here. I’m no art critic, so I don’t know if it’s dynamic camera angles or what’s going on, but this is just fantastic and very engaging on a visual level. Kudos.
Thank you, gangler.
must be the splatter backgrounds.
…and the swept back hair.
Having the splatter backgrounds (almost) entirely in “team colors” was a nice touch.
I am not even remotely surprised that Syr’nj is a fencer.
Also, the goggles are on. I believe that this means that there’s an ass-kicking by SCIENCE! scheduled.
She had the shield and shortsword before. Remember the pirate cavern?
I’m not sure Science is guaranteed.
After all, the Goggles, zey do Nussink!
I’m so confused. Did Frigg change sizes at any point in time? Because I thought she’d gotten huge when she stepped on the board? But now everyone is the same size?
No, she never actually grew. She expected her mace to, but it didn’t.
Christ, the RSS’d image is tiny. I can just about cover this whole page with my palm. Is there any possibility of less scaled-down images in the feed?
no. click through, pay his advertisers.

tl;dr- wahhhh.
Man, but then I’ve got to move my whole hand on the mouse and do the clicky thing. It’s just too much work! I DEMAND MORE CONVENIENCE! Phil and co. should be beaming this comic directly into my mind three days a week!
He *is* beaming it directly into your mind. Don’t you remember what Mr. Dedalus told you before you climbed into the tank?

Syr’nj finally realizes her purpose in life.

Had to be done.
Oh lord. That never even occurred to me, but now… now I can’t unthink it!
Dwarf on horse.
I would make a pun about ponies or mules or something, but that seems too easy for this. I guess someone else will have to jockey to be the first person to make a horse pun.
Sorry, all I can think of is…
“Shoot low, men! They’re riding Shetland ponies!”
That one was a bit below the belt.
Best and Greydust seem to be just horsin’ around; guess it’s up to Syr’nj to get to the point.
actually i think she’s blocking
Maceblocking!
Seems everyone’s good at blocking -something- in this group.
Blocking and attacking. She’s a mutitasker. (look at her dagger.)
that post turned out fail… you get the idea, anyway. I’m used to forum formatting.
“Now you’re singin’ my tune”
I see what you did there, Best.

“Swift Mount”
Isn’t that Best’s Special Move?
Gotta love those double and triple entendres!
Yes, swift mount with a long ride.
Guess he took the Endurance feat.
I’m waiting for Frigg to hit a piece with one of those front-liners she’s blocking, so she can announce: “Pwned!”
I’m waiting for her to run into the White Queen.
Curious to see how Phil and co will have that play out.
Ass-to-ass?
Maybe the Queen will take the easy way out. After all, Suicide is Painless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gO7uemm6Yo
I kinda expected she’d hump at the opportunity to meet Frigg.
Oh my, lost a couple of pages this week >_<
The fighting scenes are really good, John! I can see the movement, the panels go really fast.
By the way, I am the only curious to know how exactly an arrow in the head can kill a mechanical being? It's not like they have a brain or something.
Thanks, Naare. I’m sure we’ve all been itching for some action after the relatively static mirror room.

And they did all that with their eyes closed!
(ok, for Syr’nj we can’t tell due to the glasses, and Gravedust cheated in the first panel)
Ok, where exactly did Best grab to hoist up the dwarf? I’m only asking because we know how he likes to take every opportunity to make a new friend.
Picking up people is Best’s specialty.
-sigh- I’m going to hate myself for saying this but…
Panel One: Go! Go! Guilded Agers!
NUH NUH NUH NUH NUUUUUH… (Cue epic metal)
I am so sorry… but –
Byron(panel 2) – “Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them knooooowww, put on a shoooowww”
