Well, it could be three REALLY TOUGH insurgents. (These are the savage races after all. Don’t they have like, axe-headed rapasoroususes or something?)

Or maybe he meant like, three warships or something.

HELLO! The guy used the words “Northport Docks” and “three”. The word three is not directly connected to the word insurgents. Now, can anyone think of someTHING else that might come into port and that there might be three of.

I wouldn’t read too much into the name given that there’s just too many places you can go with it. Scorpions aren’t generally considered nice creatures but between the zodiac and Scipio Africanus this guy just may be aloof but fair in his dealings. That, and we’ve already got an arrogant guy named Best and a bandit named Bandit, so hopefully we’re not going to be introducing Smarmy Smarmerson next.

I think panel 3 is full of ominous foreshadowing. That squirrel will harbor a grudge for that time he was startled and almost dropped his acorn, going on to gather up an army of adorable woodland creatures and lead them to devastating victory over the human[oid]s!

Oh, also the squirrel is Dedalus’ alt.

Also, sudden dislike for Scipio, what-ho? I don’t agree that he’s instigating. I think he doesn’t trust Bandit very much. Which of course makes perfect sense.

I think if any of the “new crew” are dumb, it’s Rachel; Scipio might be the smartest of them.

I still wonder if these “new crew” are elaborately well-programmed AI, or if they are a new crop of test players…

I would immediately believe that if the EEG signals had not shown the resurrections so clearly. If they simply had respawned as different characters it would not explain the carefully aligned offsets of the onsets, I guess.

I like Rachel the least, but, really, for me, this is the opposite scenario of when Campbell introduced a slew of new characters to “Fans”. Then, I only liked a few of the “new guard”. However, I came to like them all to some degree over time, so, for those on the fence, unless Phil and T. plan to feed them all to the wolves right away, maybe something similar will happen here, and these characters will become more and more affable as the plot goes on.

That said, Raeg (Scipio) is my favorite. His real name that Phil and T. gave him is pretty cool, too, but I really wish he had remained “The Man With No Name” so I could use my nickname for him all the time.

Like any good tank, Scipio is merely keeping tabs on the entire group, good situational awareness and all that. stirring things up a little is just his way of investigating what peoples intentions are. or I could be reading this all wrong in which case my point is moot.

“Guess we’ll have to keep gaining experience…” is the closest I’ve seen to a metagame reference from one of the protagonists in quite a while. It has the form of a dedicated roleplayer’s trying to put an in-character wrapper around a metagame problem.

I really don’t understand how Scipio is “stirring things up”. To me, he seems to just be trying to figure out why Bandit isn’t hanging with the old crew, Bandit is just taking it further by herself.

Bandit brought the new team together and organized everything. It’s only natural that Scipio would see her as a leader — and wonder why the newcomers weren’t treating her as such.

Stirring things up? Scipio’s a team player, smart enough to see that something’s going on that he doesn’t know about, and discrete about how he asks the question.

Well he did mention guerilla insurgents. Guerilla suggests a small and non-regular unit, usually meant for sneak attacks and sabotage. Insurgents would hint that they have been there for awhile disguised as non combatants or otherwise seemingly harmless wouldn’t it?

Eh, the terms in D&D were named such so that they could be referred to directly in game without going of character…with the exception of the term “levels” ..there used to be an actual name for those. Nothing wrong to say you need more experience. The post-9/11 buzzwords though…Egh. At least, I’ve heard worse instances, like the entirety of Avatar.

I believe what he is referring to is the fact that ‘Guerrilla insurgents’ is an entirely redundant phrase, which no respectable media outlet would have used in the recent past, but which modern-day mainstream US media, oriented as it is towards the lowest denominator who would benefit from the repetition, is quite fond of. Guerrilla and Insurgent are after all more or less synonyms, are they not?
