I’d hope that’s enough restraint to hold Byron.

That wooden support beam is going to snap like a twig if they get him a-ragin’, but I have a feeling they won’t be able to get him to rage anyway.

PS, can someone PLEASE tell me how to set up a site to automatically generate gravatars for commenters who don’t have him, such a Amaster’s scipio above? I really want to implement it on my own webcomic.

I think he means “how do I set up wordpress to pick its random gravatars out of a folder of pictures I specify?”

I recall I have mine set up to provide random gravatars for ungravatared people, I’ll give it a poke tonight and see if that page comes with an option to choose the source for the random images.

All right. I can tell you in just three easy steps:

          1) Make a folder with all your customized avatars, and title the folder something alphanumeric with no spaces for ease of use.

          2) Upload this folder to the avatars directory on your server. This directory will be found in the images folder in the directory that corresponds the WordPress theme that you have active (it won’t work if you put it anywhere else).

          3) In Comicpress Options, under the Posts & Pages tab, there is a dropdown menu with which you can select the avatar directory you just uploaded. Anyone who posts on your comments with an e-mail address that does not have a gravatar will have one of your custom avatars randomly assigned to them.

Bonus) Once a random avatar is assigned, it will stay assigned to that e-mail address until you switch avatar directories. So if you just want to shuffle them quickly for no reason, simply re-upload the folder with a different name and choose it under Comicpress Options. It may be possible to switch to another folder and immediately switch back to produce the same result, but I have never tested this.

Well, it seems like folks are going to be tied up here for a while. The fetters of fate tugged these characters into a strange place today, no?
Personally, I can’t wait for Byron to rock everything with heavy metal, but I worry he may bring down the house.

I think the point where you’re using misspellings like “chainces” rather than actually making puns is the point where you’re officially tying too hard.

Seconded, if it’s not a word or a proper noun don’t use it.
Of course this means all I’ve gotten so far is a groan and a do-not-pass-Go, are we that pun-impoverished today?

Pun impoverished? No. Never that. Some of us have just been tied up with other things. When life starts chaining you to a non-internet capable desk, problems emerge.

Also, when it comes to puns, the whole point is that they are bad, shoddy, and elict groans (or start a pun war). There is no such thing as trying too hard.

No way! You can’t start putting rules around which puns are acceptable. With puns, the worse they are the better they are, so you’re essentially disqualifying the best of them.
