Annotated 44-2
I love that expression in the last frame: Goblaurence just looks so crushed that he’s not going to get to use the immense collection of munitions he packed and prepared, clearly with a lot of TLC. Jason and John are both excellent at giving villains various shades of comedy when the situation calls for it…see the current installment of Traveler for a good example.
And while I’m referencing other stories, Goblaurence’s “chunce” comment refers to Payet Best’s print-only solo adventure, which Goblaurence may’ve been around to witness. Best’s look has changed a lot since those days, but the ax-guitar remains distinctive enough for an uncertain identification.
FB: Goblaurence’s favorite Pixar character is Bomb Voyage.
I remember that solo adventure, I was so excited to be getting a copy and supporting you guys. Then when it arrived the print was so teeny-tiny it gave me a headache to read it. Still pretty cool, though. I chuckled when I saw that Goblaurence’s first reaction was to remember the fire incident.
I’m enjoying Traveler! The giant page size initially put me off from getting started, but now I’m hooked.
Poor Goblaurence looks so crestfallen.
Two things that I’m a little confused by:
1: Why didn’t Rana say earlier that the Peacemakers were within view? (also, what’s the correct pronoun? The name very much sounds female to me, but the same goes for Gondolessa, and … avians are weird, I guess) He/she must have spotted them before the avalanche came down since that avalanche would have worsened visibility a lot.
2: People and things don’t tend to float on avalanches unless they have very low density. In particular: People don’t float on them without flotation aids, and that goes doubly for axes. Best let go of his axe three pages ago, and I don’t see it in the picture. So Goblaurence should not be able to spot it, and Best should have a very lousy chance of ever finding it again (serves him right).
Rana’s canonically male and didn’t see the Peacemakers until they started getting avalanched.
The people floating on avalanche thing is unlikely, I’ll admit, but not impossible if the terrain keeps the snow from accumulating too much right where our heroes are, by diverting most of its flow elsewhere. (Really, it’s more like they’re bobbing to the surface often enough that it doesn’t make a difference.)
In 43.23 panel 1, it’s shown that Best can summon his ax to his hand like it’s a Jedi (or Sith) lightsaber, so while it would be lost otherwise, as it is, it’s not an issue.
There needs to be a version of the Megamind “No Bitches?” meme with Goblaurence saying “No Bombs?
