Syr’s faction with Iwatani and Bedard just went up.

There’s no way he won’t betray her at some point but Iwatani appreciates somebody playing the game at this level so well.

“They have nothing to gain…” or “They stand to gain nothing…”

Either will fix the dialog in panel 1.

There’s a theory that the original adaptive benefit of consciousness is the ability to decide how to interpret ambiguous sense data.

        So, this means you’re sentient.

Makes perfect sense to me the way it’s written

Which brings up something said before in The End comics (unless that was one of the posts that didn’t get accepted): “does the English language actually have formal rules concerning grammer? Or is that just something the Pedantics like to toss around to sound smarter than they truly are?”

Also, just to be on the safe side, I dictionary checked “grammer”, since I didn’t want to fall afoul of any of those sneaky words with multiple legitimate spellings.
          Fortunately, my concern was well-founded:
          http://www.thefreedictionary.com/grammer

… You just spelt “grammar” incorrectly.

Optionally, you could remove the word “stand” and replace it with “have”. That would also be correct.

Whoa. That is a pretty decent demonstration our guildies rounded up in next to no time. Does Gastonia really have that many adventurers just hanging around, ready to demonstrate on a moment’s notice? Or are they just folks who came to gawk at the spectacle? Either way, that’s a pretty big crowd for such a small group of activists.

It also seems that the Admiral’s faction could simply propose a draft. They are at war, after all, and need every blade and spell they can get. If the adventurers had no choice but to join the military and fight for Gastonia, there would be no need to set up a guild to appease them. /soulless politician

Well, a chunk of those people are likely former Fightopians, so Sundar was likely to be able to call them up real quick. Beyond that, there might have been other ways to get the word out and some of the crowd might not be actual adventurers. You didn’t need to be black to march in the Civil Rights Movement afterall, you just needed to support it. And we got a good show a few pages back of how the common people are suffering from adventurer’s basically having to join the military just to keep fed and leave them to fend for themselves.

Remember, Arkherra is the setting of an MMO. A particularly popular one, if I remember the Sepia World bits correctly. Even assuming there are more NPCs than an average MMO would have in order to keep it as a real functioning society, a significant portion of the population would of course be adventurers.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I do not believe the Admiral is in charge of the land forces? Isn’t he only representing the Gastonian Navy that did not accomplish a single thing from the beginning of the conflict?

Could be a sort of ‘Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff‘ position. Each branch is rep’ed and a singular ‘commander’ is appointed above them to represent all the services to the council. The U.S. has had 5 Admirals hold the Chairman position, the latest being Admiral Mullen.

Especially in times of war. I recall in Poland there was a small bit of controversy between the military stationed in Afghanistan or Iraq and the Bureaucracy. The soldiers desired to modify their choppers, in order to mount any form of firepower on them. To do this they would have to “workshop” some basic mounts on the choppers, something they claimed could be done easily with the resources available. To this the Bureaucrats responded that the machine guns in question cannot be mounted on said choppers, because there are no regulation mounts on them. Although, to be honest, there have been stories even before that of the Polish army being forced to weld together some armored plating for their patrol cars that lacked almost any protection.

My point being, somebody sitting behind a desk cannot have an honest say on what is “good” or “bad” at the “front” (in this case it’s somebody who might had never seen combat/been an adventurer speaking as if he knew the whole story).

If adventurers’ organization on the surface has official support from the government – but at the same time are often subject to naïve bureaucratic meddling – then it shall truly be a guilded age for adventurers.

Does anyone else feel today’s comic is pretty special? It’s the closest we’ve ever gotten to seeing the title of the comic in the comic itself!
