Small wonder Sister Blair couldn’t sell Scipio on this. She thinks herself a sharp saleswoman, but have you actually seen her drive the point home yet? Sure she had a break with E-Merl, but that stock’s a fifth of what it was.

I can’t remember, in any gaming-related webcomic, ever seeing a panel so clearly depicting a counterspell check.

Trufax: That extra-long guest week and other time off we took between Chapters 25 and 26 gave the Waltrips extra time to make the comics extra-nice.

So next time we have to do something like that, I hope everyone remembers that the wait pays off!

OWWWie!!! Wow! That sword strike is a really great way to blow your fighter’s shoulder or elbow joint (not to mention significant loss of striking power)! In reality his arm would have have already rolled over into initial blade recovery though with a double edged weapon, there is just as much damage done with the ‘reverse edge’ of the weapon leading. In other words, at this point, the strike is palm down.

the way i see that panel is scip is intending to land on blair’s far side with the sword handle at his left hip so he already has a thrust readied when he lands (ideally behind blair)

Also, assuming Scipio had hit (which was his intent), had he tried to roll his wrist before this point, he’d have been twisting while cutting through Blair, which would’ve been a little difficult. Sure, keeping his wrist flat is less than optimal for strike power and recovery, but doing anything else just means your sword gets stuck half-way.

Rachel clearly doesn’t like Tamara’s heavy-handed approach, and is about to instruct her in the finer points of the light touch. Her hands-on approach has gotten glowing reviews, so this will hopefully but a good opportunity for Tamara to refine her tactics. After all, it’s blindingly obvious that Rachel can see the lack of vision Tamara displays in these affairs; Tamara tries to mask her deficiencies and put a bold face on it, but Rachel has got a grip on the situation, and a firm hand on the tiller.

Also, the big trick is: you still have to put out the fire that you started, it just means that you hopefully have time to stop the fire from getting completely out of hand

Also related to the use of fire (in the form of dynamite explosions) to put out burning oil wells. The explosion displaces all of the oxygen from the area where the oil is burning, long enough for the flame itself to go out.

That’s the technique they used to put out the oil fires in the Middle East back in 1991, after the Gulf War.

Fighting fire with fire worked in Naruto! Granted it was fighting magical regular fire with magical black all-consuming fire that makes the caster gradually blind, but still.

The part where the GM regrets the ability’s description: “Black flames consumes anything in the caster’s field of vision.” Where anything obviously includes fire.

Her face was aimed down at E-Merl, so I’m pretty sure she was going for him. It seems pretty clear that she’s way into the ‘sh!t’ and likes the warmth. Maybe she’ll change her mind after Rachel beats her up and cracks/dents/demolishes her mask, but until then she seems to be firmly on the other side.

Yeah, true…I hadn’t thought of the direction her face was tilted at. Blind folks don’t always “look” where they’re aiming because, not having their eyes to rely on, they’re forced into using other sense clues like hearing and touch. So that kinda threw me.

It’d still be awesome to have Rachel beat the snot out of those girls, then shag E-Merl’s narrow elven bohunkus ten ways to Sunday while Scipio hurriedly lopes back into town pretending nothing happened. “Nothing to see here, carry on with your daily lives Citizens…!”
